Incense Alchemy at Home is a sensory experience working with earth sourced plant allies, and an invitation to sit down, slow down and craft your own aromatic medicine by hand. It brings my Incense Alchemy workshop into your own space, with everything you need to grind, blend, form and dry your own botanical incense cones, guided step by step through the same flow we share around the table.

Making incense this way is a ritual in itself. You clear a little space, set out your sachets of real woods, resins and herbs, and begin to grind and stir them together, noticing how each plant releases its scent as it warms and softens in your hands. The hydrosol gathers everything into one fragrant dough, and as you roll each small cone you press a little of your own intention into it, so that later, when you light it, the smoke carries something of that quiet hour back into your home.

Every ingredient is a whole plant material, sourced from the earth and portioned for you so there is nothing to measure, from sandalwood and frankincense to rose, agarwood and myrrh. These are the same plant allies I work with in my studio, each one chosen for how it smells, how it burns and how it makes a room feel.

The Yin and Yang blends

Yin, soft and grounding: sandalwood, frankincense, rose and cardamom, bound with joss powder and brought together with rose water.

Yang, warm and awakening: agarwood, myrrh, clove and zhi shi, bound with joss powder and brought together with bergamot hydrosol.

You can grind the resins yourself, which is one of the most satisfying parts of the ritual, or have them crushed and powdered by me before they arrive. If you choose to grind, add the mini mortar and pestle, which comes with its own sifter to sift the resin and remove any clumps.

Each blend makes 8 to 15 mini cones, depending on the size you form them, so the kit makes 16 to 30 cones in all.

Who it is for

It is made for workshop guests who want to return to the practice at home, for anyone who has been curious about making incense but has not yet joined a workshop, and as a thoughtful gift for someone who loves ritual and the slow pleasure of making something by hand. With a Yin and a Yang blend in every kit, you can craft alongside a friend or explore both yourself, and once your cones have dried, all that is left is to light one, sit back and let the smoke do the work.
